Joint research of Autonomous Vehicles, Cyber-Physical Systems and their practical applications.

Collaboration Details

Prof. YangQuan Chen and Prof. Lin are both deeply involved in the Society of IEEE/ASME Mechatronic and Embedded Systems and Applications (MESA) (refer to http://iel.ucdavis.edu/mesa/committees.php). Prof. Chen was the General Chair of 2010 IEEE/ASME International Conference on Mechatronic and Embedded Systems and Applications (MESA 2010) and Prof. Lin was the MESA 2019 General Chair and MESA 2022 Local Arrangement Chair. They now work together on the topic of autonomous vehicles, cyber-physical systems and their practical applications. With this international collaboration, they aim to develop and implement smart robotics systems for smart manufacturing, smart agriculture, smart city and so on.

History of Collaboration

In the arrangement of MESA 2022 (https://mesa2022.org/) on Sep 28-30, 2022, Prof. Po Ting Lin invited Prof. YangQuan Chen to come to Taiwan and serve as Keynote Speaker. The title of his keynote speech was "Digital Twin Enabled Smart Control Engineering". Prof. Chen's team also presented 6 papers in MESA 2022. The title of each paper is given below:

  • A Miniature Millimeter-Wave Radar-Based Contactless Lithium Polymer Battery Capacity Sensing with Edge Artificial Intelligence

  • XAIoT - The Future of Wearable Internet of Things

  • A Digital Twin Enabled Internet of Living Things (IoLT) Framework for Soil Carbon Management

  • Fractional Order Backpropagation Neural Network for Battery Capacity Estimation with Realistic Vehicle Data

  • A Soil Carbon Content Quantification Method Using A Miniature Millimeter Wave Radar Sensor and Machine Learning

  • Single and Multi-sUAS-based Emission Quantification Performance Assessment Using MOABS/DT: A Simulation Case Study

Furthermore, Prof. Po Ting Lin invited Prof. YangQuan Chen to give a seminar talk, entitled "Scientific Data Drones Research and Educational Excellence at University of California Merced". Prof. Jia-Yush Yen also gave a seminar talk in the title of "A Surgeon Co-Working Task Control for Robotic MIS Systems" as Prof. Po Ting Lin presented "Robot Arm Obstacle Avoidance Based on Random Forest and Lagrangian Minimization".

During Prof. Chen's stay in NTUST, he also gave a series of graduate-level lectures in the subject of Special Topics on System Control (https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLltuqSlKGc1xRrEy6laYNArx5SHbDkNnn&si=KxKx1BP-CNdQws0e).

On Mar 2023, Prof. Po Ting Lin visited UC Merced and had deeper discussions with Prof. YangQuan Chen's team in the topic of robotics, autonomous vehicles, cyber-physical systems, digital twin, etc.

On May 2023, Prof. YangQuan Chen was once again invited to come to Taiwan. He was invited to give a special talk entitled "Fractional Calculus: The Core Motivation and Real Applications" in 2023 Taiwan Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (TWSIAM) Annual Meeting. Furthermore, he was invited to give a seminar talk in the topic of "ChatGPT, emergence, creativity and fractional calculus" at NTUST.
